A friend of mine, ex Grenadier Guard, who has CP experience in the middle east etc is looking for something in the London area now. If anyone has any contacts please let me know, thanks.

There are agencies for this kind of thing. A friend of mine did it for a while when on a career break, she's a woman and did rather well chaperoning oil billionaires' wives and ckildren around Harrods, because of course the clients don't feel comfortable with a man hanging around outside changing rooms.

A lot of this work is by recommendation. I worked for a couple of years for a security firm and most of the CP stuff was farmed out to known ex-mil colleagues.

Sounds like a friends experience of CP in the uk except he's male

Thanks for the replies. I think his aim was to do the ME and ships and then move on to looking after celebs and rich people but he's just been shafted by 2 companies in the ME now and so is looking for something more secure (no pun intended!).

On another website I visit someone is looking for a driver. It's not CP work but may be a foot in the door. Details below:

"I am after someone who lives within 15-20 miles max of Queens Gate, South Ken.
They must have a full manual driving licence, D1 and full motorcycle licence driving for a wealthy family.
The job is Wednesday to Sunday, so weekend working. Monday and Tuesday off.
Role is around 60 hours a week, £50,000 a year plus bonus. This is a full time, PAYE role.
You will drive the Bentley, Range Rover, Viano and the party bus which is a £350k long wheel base Merc van that has the inside interior of a private jet, very noice.
Plus the motorbike will be used for quick errands in London.

Job is immediate start and you must have experience driving the above vehicles."


The problem with CP/maritime is that there's loads of people trying to do it and it's my understanding the pay and amount of work has reduced.

I deliver to a couple of ex marines who do the ships, all the employees are ex royal marine .

Does he live in/near London? Most of the jobs are London based or on the outskirts then commute in with the boss to his/her work. Most of the CP stuff is a day here & there with different clients and agency type work, getting a permanent job with a family is really hard!! Very few jobs come with accommodation, I'm lucky on mine and have digs thrown into the contract but most want you to live no more than 30/40 mins away incase you've got to come in and cover somebody.

Getting a decent (and regular) CP gig is difficult so the best thing he can do is get on the books with different firms and work the odd day they offer him, even if it's a stty 6 hour event, just get on it and show willing or he'll be put at the bottom of a very big pile. Most of the decent obs are word of mouth and just a few bits & pieces here & there. Unless he knows someone on a team who recommends him or there's a vacancy they need to fill quickly, he might have to start at the bottom and work up. So basically bread & butter stuff like SG, assett protection and event security, then hopefully land a RST or CP job.

RST (residential) tends to be more secure and longer term, set hours (usually 12 hours on/off) and set shifts so could be 1-2 weeks on/off on rotation with someone else or another team. CP you could have work for a few days then nothing for a few weeks or pretty much flat out every day for months & months with no day off.

The markets pretty flooded now so my advice is take what comes, go from there and start networking. Wages vary from say £10 p/h to £150 p/d, anymore than £150p/d is getting rare. The money's dropped down a fair bit. It's a pretty boring job as well hanging around waiting for something to happen.....5% of my job is actual close protection, the rest is hanging around/eating/PH & family guy!
