Driving Assignments

How does one go about finding driving 'assignments' as opposed to driving 'jobs'. I'm looking for one off, or casual, or very short term.
I currently work for myself doing kitchen and bathroom fitting, along with all manner of property maintenance work. That's going well, is quite profitable, and I generally have 4 to 8 weeks of work in my diary.
I'm looking to punctuate that with some 'interesting' driving work - I'm not talking multidrop delivery driving here, more driving people or things around, or even testing. I've heard of people driving MP'S to and from their national conference, and remember the fleet of BMW's for the 2012 Olympics? There must have been a small army of guys equipped with 5 and 7 series motors ferrying people around for a month..

I'm a qualified electrical engineer, with wide ranging experience of motorcycles and cars on road, track, and off-road. Recent (last 10 yrs) car history is P38 Range Rover, Freelander, Saab 93, A4's, a 5series touring, I'm currently in an Evoque, but I've just ordered an E89 Z4.
I raced bikes for 10 yrs, doing the big national circuits, Isle of Man, and an 8:30 round the Nurburgring- I also managed to haul my diesel Freelander round there in 10:26!

So, is there somewhere/someone/agency who deals with these things or is it just a case of who you know and being in the right place at the right time?

You don't say why you're interested in this line; it may shape some of the responses if we knew.

For example, are you looking to transition in to a new role in the future so just want to test the water? Or are you just looking for some light relief from the day job? Or is the day job no longer working out?

Day job is going well, paying well, but is becoming routine.
I'm just looking for something interesting now and then, rather than a career change. So one-off or casual stuff which adds some variety would be great..

Where are you based?

Do you have any additional driving qualifications? HGV, PSV etc.

Based in Chester.
Just a clean car & bike licence..
No HGV/PSV but have driven 7.5T curtain siders, transits, Landrovers , prestige cars and 2 seaters, and regularly drive in Spain on the Costa and in the mountains.
As for bikes, my ACU licence has lapsed, but again, experience on a wide variety of track, road and off-road machines.

How are you planning on fitting this in with your current career.
If you have 4 to 8 weeks work at a time booked in are you planning on dropping your customers work for a day here and there to fit in with the driving.

Don't know where you operate or how small/ large the community is but it doesn't take long in some areas for word to go around that someone is missing jobs a day here and there.
Question I would have is it possible it will makie a big difference to your current 4 to 8 week work load in front of you.

Sounds a difficult balancing act but go for it if it doesn't affect your day job.
