Received voluntary redundancy start/ buy a business

So, i'm now looking into either starting a business (not sure what though) or looking at buying one in the North East.

For my back round I have pretty much been offshore all my working life (Engineer) and have taken the redundancy as I would like to give life a go working on land and near home. There are various websites that seem to be the equivalent of rightmove for businesses for sale, but am i looking in the right places with these or are there other avenues I should be looking down?

So am basically looking for any advice that can be given to someone looking to buy a/ start up a business and pointers of where to look for them. Preferably with some sort of engineering involved.
