Working trade Plate/ fleet management companies

Looking at doing a bit of this - there's a company with several depots who are recruiting for self employed drivers

so on a self employed basis - from speaking to the drivers they do tend to be end to end rather than the hitch hiking trade plate jobs of the past...

anyone got any words of wisdom regarding such jobs??

i've done a ( 15 hour) day for one of these type of companies via an ordinary employment agency ... and the reason it was a 15 hour day was due to them being based 2 hours from where the vehicles were to be collected from and 2 hours frm where the final lot of vehicles were dropped off ... ( travel to collect vehicles in peopl ecarrier with one of their staff drivers via picking up another of their staff drivers move first lot of vans , jump back in people carrier head back to collect second lot of vans via stop off for lunch , move second lot of vans, get back in people carrier and head back to home)

the job is not hard assuming you are confident and competent to check over a, jump in and drive anything you have a licence for... also if as S?E you are expected to do nights out what's the arrangement for that ( do you need a credit card / do you need your own account with the lo-co hotels or do they have an account ), for fuelling vehicles you are moving ( do you need a credit card, your own fuel card account or can you use their fuel cards?) and are you expected to apply for your own trade plates or do they loan / rent you a set ?

read the paperwork for how the self employed were getting paid - as i wonder if S/E wouldn't have got the 15 hours that PAYE agency bods got for the above described job ... and bear in mind that a lot of the driving is out of scope for drivers hours and you may be faced with issues over daily rest wrt the EWTD - especially if you are deemedto have finished when you drop off your last vehicle of the day even if you are hour or two from home / hotel for the night ...

thanks for the reply.

speaking to a few of the guys there they seem to go out in groups and then a pool driver picks them up and takes them back to the depot/next drop.

I'm working at something similar so the whole boot to boot checking of the vehicles wouldnt be new to me. I'll need to ask them regarding over night stays and expenditure - i know they have fuel cards for the drivers.
