Hi All
I'm getting good at this posting lark so here goes -
I basically messed up my education whilst I was younger (family, mental state issues) and know coming up to 36 I would like to actually get into a career.
At the moment I am considering an AAT Level 2 course via self study in the evening. I have a full time job but each evening I have about 3 hours spare and I don't mind/kind of like numeracy.
However, a lot of the past threads on pistonheads and other websites state that it is imperative to get some sort of finance assistant/book keeping role at the same time to gain practical experience, but all the jobs I have seen demand some sort of experience.
So, would it be better for me to complete my Level 2 qualification and then approach local accountancy firms to see if they can offer me anything or start applying for roles and just explain that I am working towards my Level 2 but in terms of finance experience I have none.
Other experience that I have is sales, customer service, administration, personal lines insurance. Qualifications wise I have usual GCSES, couple of Level 2 apprenticeships in sales and customer service, would this all allow me to gain a starting role without the experience?
Pay wise I don't even mind earning minimum wage as long as the hours are full time and I can gain some valuable experience that will help my career aspirations.
I am confident enough in my ability to pass Level 2 within the next 6 to 8 weeks and long term (within the next 5 to 6 years) I would like to get to chartered status (after completing Level 3 and 4 of the AAT), but I am not sure which area or qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) I would like to complete (another post for another time)
Sorry for the long post - searched for old threads but nothing that would answer the above and I'm getting used to asking the pistonheads massive for advice.

If you're motivated then just get on with the course.
You can then look to secure something but clearly there's no immediate pressure as you're already in employment.
In the short term, have a look round and maybe offer (unpaid initially) assistance to local clubs/charities who often struggle to get help.
