Does the perfect job exist?

Does the perfect job exist and if so is it worth hanging out for it?

I am looking for a new job and I'm getting plenty of attention from recruiters and I have interviews lined up but all potential jobs have the same flaws as my current one, that is they all have an hours commute and they all generate a hefty commuting cost (toll roads and fuel).

My main motivation for wanting a new job is money as I am underpaid, and all these prospective roles pay £10k more than what I am on now but I don't know if I should take this opportunity to get a job closer to home. There are none available at the minute but I live in one of the biggest cities in the UK so they do appear have couple of months.

You say the main reason for move is money, but then unsure about commute. Sort out your priorities then decide. When the right job arrives closer to home, no guarantees you'll make the grade. Nothing stopping you applying even though in a new job. The perfect job does exist but is very rare, there are always some level of compromise based on your expectations. For example, what if the right job appeared walking distance from your house, but was offering say £2k or £5k less than current ?

Just remember to factor into the equation both the cost of commuting and the valuable time you lose in the evening.

For an hours commute vs a 15 minute walk it would have to be about 12-15K to balance it.

The new role is £10k more gross (30%) and the commute is actually less than half (13 miles vs 29) but it goes through the city where as my current job goes away, so in terms of time it balances out the same.
