Job changing location and hours
Discussion
Hi guys
Looking for a bit of advice. Little bit of a background first.
I have worked for this company for the last 2 and half years Monday - Friday 9 - 5.30 however have never been issued a contract. Our offices are moving at the end of next month and will mean me and one of my colleges will have to do every other Saturday as well as changing my working hours from 8 - 4.30.
The new location is significantly closer for me about 10 miles instead of 30 however for my college it's gone from 5 miles to 30. He is clearly unhappy about this and has worked out he's going to be a grand a year out Jusy in fuel. Can we both legally refuse to work Saturdays out boss has said off the record we are doing it and hasn't asked do we mind or want to do it.
Is there anything we can say legally that can mean we would not have to work weekends or do we have to do as we are told or move on.
Sorry for the long paragraph just need to get everything in.
Thanks in advance

And yet there's so much missing
Old hours are 8-4:30, what are the new ones?
What reason is there for having to work Saturdays, and does this mean 6 days a week?
Distance, (in my head, please check facts), it depends if your colleague currently goes 5 miles south to work, and the new place is 30 miles north of his house, as 30 miles is the rule of thumb cutoff for what's reasonable for the company to expect. IANAL though, so rely on others.
Practically, your work has offered changed terms to your contracts. Agree them, keep the job, or refuse them and find another.

Thanks for the response.

My hours currently are 9 - 5.30 new ones will be 8 - 4.30. In regards to working Saturdays it will be 5 days a week with a day off during the week not sure what day yet that will be.
My college does north west ish from our current location and will need to go pretty much straight north to our new location.
I'm not to fussed about the change as it suits me much better In terms of travel saving me over £100 a month just in fuel.
Small PITA on the hours, but that depends on whether you are a morning person.
Simples, make sure you choose Mon- Fri as your five days. Try saying no, because you have a hobby or you drive old folks around the stately houses. You might get away with it, or get mo' monies.
Your colleague is stuck, I think. Like it or lump it time. You might want to see if anyone else replies about the distance thing, and if so, and they are betterer qualified than I, let him know its legit, rather than suffering his whining for the next months.
