i can't be the only one that dreads going back to work, having passed the big 50 i am thinking there must be more to life than working all the time.

the thought of spending hours upon hours slaving away just makes me want to run away from it all

Nope, perfectly normal. The way I see it is that you have to do the best with what you can control: applying for better jobs if its the job, enjoying your free time (hobbies) or finding ways to make the current job as bearable as possible.

I think i'm the opposite, can't wait to get back to London, work and my daily routine. A week with the family in my home town is too much! There is a reason I left in the first place. hehe

I'm self employed doing a low paid job that I like, I might have a lie in so I miss the rush hour wink
Ill health will probably cause retirement otherwise I don't think i'd mind carrying on, just maybe less hours, maybe in my own workshop at home or somewhere warm...

O/P - any chance of going part time ?

I'm only 43 and after working for 27 years i'm seriously looking at dropping down to 30 hours / 3 days a week this year .

Is it supposed to take that long to realise? I'm not long past 30 and already a bit cheesed off with it!

I am not going back until Feb, I have a lot of hospital appointments and being a contractor helps.

And my wife gave me a list of stuff to do in the house as when I am working it takes all my time and I maybe working away so no time to fix or amend the the house.

Painting tomorrow YAY

I know exactly how you feel so kind of going through the motions for the moment.

No idea want you do? But I've also had/have the same thoughts .
Have a plan hopefully so I'm working on the basis it won't be forever .
Keeps me going ........ Just

The trick is to find a role you enjoy, then it won't actually feel like work. Easier said than done, I concede, but not impossible.

Have gone through the exact same feelings recently on another thread.
Ive realised I cant work for other people I have no respect for - partly because Ive always worked for myself. Recent job interview by two particulalrly dumb 25 y/o's in positions of authority at a plush aircraft charter company in East Anglia sealed the conclusion! So, my cunning plan of having a quiet retirement job for 10 years has failed :0. Instead, Ive put together a "suite' of activities to keep me engaged including volunteering to work for SSAFA/local First Responder/Tug Pilot at local airfield/spend more time doing house renovation. Should keep me busy. Infact today is my first day alone all day as my new wifey goes back to work (she just went out the door) after completing her Masters. Best I get up and go down that gym then !
