Jobs - What to do?

Using a different username as my original can make me easily identified, especially as I know some of my colleagues use PH.

I'm a bit stuck on how to progress my career, I currently work in an office for an airline handling agent and have done for nearly a year. I produce aircraft loading documents which was fun, but the novelty wore off very quickly. The workload is very low and repetitive, which sounds nice but the novelty of browsing PH and watching TV shows on my phone all day wears off very quickly. It's very unrewarding and uninspiring and quite recently, very boring. I turn up and every day is exactly the same. The pay is okay, with a bit of overtime i'm on about £20k.

Before this I worked for 6 years in retail, I loved the fast paced, hectic nature. When arriving you didn't know if you were walking into an easy stroll or a crazy mess. It was organised chaos and I found it fun. Sadly higher managements relentless focus on KPIs and payroll/budget cuts sucked my enthusiasm out and I left for my current role. The pay was also poor, I was on £17k as a duty manager but pay doesn't motivate me, I'd rather have a job I love and enjoy for less money than a st one I hate waking up in the morning for.

I have a business mangement degree, but i've not really been able to utilise it in gaining a graduate role. I'll be honest i've not been trying hard enough to do this.

So, I want out of my current job but I have no idea what to do. While I find an office boring, if the job is right then I wouldn't mind it. Some job satisfaction would be nice. I have an interest in transport and logistics. I have noticed a few roles about for HGV transport planners, which I am going to look into but on the face of it, i'd prefer a role that is outdoors or active. I like having a job that is varied and challenging. While I have no qualifications or experience in motorsport or engineering, I do like working alongside anything with an engine, the bigger the better.


My dream job would to be a train driver, but as i'm colour blind, safety critical roles are out of the question. Air traffic control is also an interest of mine, but again, I need a medical for that.

Can anyone help on suggesting some roles to look into?

I'm a bit reluctant to start bouncing from job to job, as i'd really like some structure and stability to my career. I'd like to nail it before kids come along.

Doing some brain storming i've got a few ideas;

Highways england - either on patrol or in the control office
Rail schedule planner - there seems to be a lack of vacancies on any rail operators websites, but I keep checking
HGV transport planner
Supermarket logistics - not really done much research on this but I will do.
Airside aircraft ops
Specialist equiment movement?


Thanks in advance. I hope the above makes sense, I am having trouble because I don't know what direction to go in, and my main focus has been closed due to being colour blind.

Maybe find some specialist recruiters. That can be a good start.

Also find the type of role you want to do and statt emailing out to HR/Managers of companies that peak your interest.


I've jumped around a few times in the last year with jobs and now at a company I feel offers me a good challenge / work life balance / salary package - an opportunity only given due to the fact I have moved around a bit lately (worked for a competitor).

Many people would like an easy job - maybe speak to management once more before you move on incase there are any upward positions you could move to.
