Woman 1 asks man 1 if they'd like to do something after a project close out meal.
Man 1 declines.
Woman 1 asks repeatedly.
Man 1 replies "You're not my type, sorry, I'm sure someone else would like your company" (word for word, as the story is being replayed in teh office.
Woman 1 gets a bit shouty, starts making comments about "male harrasment, insulting her".
Man 1 replies "You have proved you own point somewhat here" and leaves, as do quite a few others.

Woman 1 hasn't turned in since Friday.

Man 1 has been quiet, though he usually is.

Office is all on tenterhooks not really knowing what to say, mainly as through water cooler scuttlebutt, a lot of us males are quite unhappy about a female throwing "harrasment" into a shouty in the pub complaint.

Two of us have spoken to both the union and HR whom both thanked us for putting on record what was seen in case of further issues.

The twist in this, everyone, including HR and union know that Man 1 is gay (he organised our company float at a pride parade last year). Only woman 1 doesn't seem to have twigged "you're not my type...." comment hence. (A few of the ladies think she might have same sex tendancies so she may have realised but this has only come out since Monday).

Anything else we should do? Was suggested putting a big rainbow with unicorns over her PC monitor but that sounds more inflamatory that "have a laugh, knock it off"? Hammer forzen sausages anywhere. Have a "concilitory" meal where we all go out, get piszed and make up?

Why do you need to do anything?

Least said, soonest mended. If Woman 1 decides to complain then it seems like man 1 has plenty of witnesses to back him up.

Quite. If anything he has the grounds for a complaint to HR, not her (I'm not suggesting he does, but he could).

"Why do you need do anything?", taking you as being most of the collective 30 or so of us in this wing of the building the air has been most foul the last couple of days. They guys don't generally want to small talk to lasses in case of word like Harrasment used and the lassess seem to fear they can't now say boo to a goose. We had a right good banter office that always got a lot done and now it just feels a bit "sordid"; everyone's commenting, no-one is sue what to do.

HR for their good selves have stated they will update the office guidance in light of recent events so that "lines are clearer". (Previous guidance did include any witness harrasment must be reported to HR, hence two of us were nominated).

Just feels like some of the innoncence is going from turning up and doing a job at what was a good organisation that is now adding rules to cover it's arse.

As witth all organisations "on the turn" it isn't just one thing, we were taken over six months ago, two years ago, three years ago and whilst the projects and the Clients are the same, the world just isn't...might be the time to move on before the embitterment begins.....

I don't know why any company does a "works do" anymore. Just gift the employee a voucher or cash for the ceiling amount and let them spend time with people they actually like.

Sounds like a sexist hate crime. Woman could make some good money there.

Without wishing to sound harsh that does seem like an exceptionally sensitive group of staff. If that's the case I would suggest asking HR to provide training on what is and isn't acceptable behaviour so that both the men and women are confident enough to talk to each other again without the worry of "crossing the line".

Last Thursday that would have been the standard of the office conversation, let alone down the pub (most are drivers so sober but the conversation drops another level usually)!!! Maybee we were getting away with too much and this was always going to happen somewhere whith a sunshine or snowflake? Maybee that is the way the world is going and better to be done?

By the way, you forgot 'Dry. No lube'. With an extra sausage shoved in for girth purposes!

You see why we're not having fun any more?
