Childcare vouchers and Mat Leave

My wife is currently on maternity leave. I have signed up to childcare vouchers, and she is trying to...

Computershare (who manage the scheme) say she needs to speak to her employer as they can't salary sacrifice stat mat pay. Her employer says...she needs to speak to Computershare as they can't salary sacrifice stat mat pay.

My feeling is her company basically need to sponsor her a £20 payment to sign up to the scheme (payment needs to be made before April, as this is when the scheme ends) and she can pick it back up once she returns to work.

Can anyone help with a definitive answer on this..?

From my understanding they can't take away the contribution whilst on mat leave and they can't take it out of the mat pay.

Basically, the employer has to fund the childcare vouchers.

My wife was in presumably the same situation and got the HR department to change their policy.

Edit: Looks like the Gov. has clarified the situation after a case went to court. Looks like we were lucky.

In essence it is a loan rather than a gift, but means we have been able to sign up before the deadline.
