Title changes at work
Discussion
Bit of an odd situation I've not been part of before but the short of it is;
Some restructuring going on at work, nothing too drastic but a lot of job title changes. I'm aware of in my instance what my old title was and what my new title is going to be.
Thing is my old title doesn't and has never actually been accurate with the work I do but the new one is, though the work I do isn't changing much.
As an aside to that, the market rate locally for the new title (that more accurately reflects my work) is a fair bit higher (10k+) so it seems like they're trying to just avoid paying more for the work involved.
So just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to broach it beyond jumping ship or if it sounds a bit dodgy?

If you like the place maybe try to negotiate a pay rise of your ROLE has substantially changed since you started. You could maybe use the title change as a small bit of evidence but wouldn't use it as the main argument.
If it's same old, same old but with a new title I think you'll struggle. Maybe just nice to have it on a CV.

Titles don't mean much, when it comes to your CV and/or applying elsewhere it's your skills and competencies which will carry.
I used to work for a huge multinational and they were ridiculous about the way they applied titles. There were literally thousands of "VP"s and probably tens of thousands of Directors. Manage 2 or 3 people and a bit of budget? Yep, you're "Director of ——".
The trouble is, per my comment about CVs above, if you then apply for a similar or one-step-up role but put on your CV that your previous role was Director, or VP, then it colours what the recruiter thinks you are and they could wonder why you appear to be taking a step down.

I had an interview with someone that couldn't comprehend what my role was because my job title did not exactly match the title they were attempting to hire for.
Funnily enough my job title changed to include the keyword they were looking for around 5-6 weeks later

How are the company doing? Have any of you actually got the same job title?
It's an easier task to administer redundancies if you only have to deal with one consultation per job title
The companies not going anywhere, if it were to go under it'd be Carillion levels of fan hitting with similar numbers of employees and with operating profits close to 1 billion seems healthy.... seems.How are the company doing? Have any of you actually got the same job title?

There's a number of us with the same or variations on the core title due to seniority, so for example I've ended up as "Senior Bumblef
k".I don't think redundancy is on the cards, though they are tight as a gnats posterior when it comes to pay.
