Evening chaps.

I have recently closed my business to go and work for a client... Strange feeling after over ten years of being my own boss, but also a good long term opportunity. My references were not an issue as the client and most of their business knows me well.....

My wife has been my co-director and worked supporting me alongside doing the stuff that house mums do. She has not been client facing beyond initial phone calls and when she has dealt with clients it's usually one offs....

Daughter is now at secondary school and the time is right for her to go back to work...

Employers reference though - what the hell does she use? She can put me down - but I'm hardly impartial. Her previous employer knew her for 6 months 12 years ago... Will they even remember her?

As ever it's recruitment agents causing the problems - their solution is to ask a client -not that my wife knew any in particular...

Any suggestions?

Get your accountant to confirm dates of employment with the business. She can also write to HMRC to get confirmation of employment dates. They will also confirm NI and tax contributions as proof of employment if necessary.
