Need to come up with a job title for a role which covers quite a wide-ranging remit. It's within a small IT Services Provider.

The role will cover aspects of the following:

- Project Delivery (not hands on but managing the lifecycle)
- Bringing new clients on board (partly project activity, partly business-related, partly service readiness)
- Managing client activity and client relationships - think BRM/CRM type tasks
- Being a virtual Technology Officer/Adviser to large/strategic/important clients. Not quite a vCTO but a trusted adviser
- Potentially reviewing and bringing about change on internal processes

It'll be "Head of" something. Have ruled out anything with "Solution" in the title, and there's a preference to avoid Head of Projects/Project Delivery, as it's more than that.

Obviously there will be humorous responses but serious ones would be most welcome!

TIA.

Seems to be a feeling that the title includes "Project" then?

Role is SE based but there is a preferred candidate already, sorry!

Some good suggestions already. I think the challenge here is that this is quite a wide range of activities, so the title will tend to the vague if it has to cover all of them equally. Two other options:

1) Pick the most important aspect(s) and name it after that. Everyone does other bits too, so doesn’t have to be in the title
2). Go for a double-barrel job title, eg Head of Client Onboarding and Technical Advice.

Not especially relevant but reminds me of when some years back the global firm I was with had a reorganisation, and one of the partners ended up with a random assortment of offices. Something like UK, Ireland, Malta, Hong Kong, and Australia. They called him “Head of Maritime Region” which was a pretty genius solution given about the only thing the countries had in common was that they weren’t land-locked.

Yes, I think that's the way it will have to go (and thanks all for the suggestions), there's a fair bit of project work in there so it may lean towards that title, but my preference would be for it not to appear to be "just" a project role.

Sounds like a Business Partner role, unless its purely internal IT focussed.

I am not keen on the title, but in the American companies I have worked for, this would often be called a 'Customer Success Manager/Consultant/Director'.....

Agree, I don't like the Customer Success/CEx titles either.

Think we're going to go with something along the lines of Head of Consultancy Services - covers all bases without tying down into any one particular aspect. Thanks for all the input.

I couldn't think of a more cringey job title.

Mine is advanced solution specialist and that is already very cringey. I may change it on my e-mails soon enough.

As noted above, I work for an American company and live in America so maybe I'm used to it! That title is incredibly common for exactly the role the discussed here though.

Your role description sounds almost identical to what our Technical Account Managers do.

They get to know the customer and their business and propose solutions - assisted by a Solutions Architect and/or Engineers. Projects get handed over to Engineering for delivery, but the TAM keeps a watching brief on longer running tasks and keeps the customer in the loop. The TAM is also the second escalation point for support issues and other customer gripes.

In a previous life, I worked in Industrial Engineering. My ultimate boss was a “Cost Vision Leader”. Spin your titles on their head - what does someone doing the job actually bring to the bottom line?

It’s both an internal & external role. It’s building relationships & problem solving, so: “Head of Technical Solutions” perhaps?
