Stuck in a dead end job

Hi,
Looking for some advice if possible,
I am currently working for a fairly large engineering company in an office based but production focused role, although I don’t make terrible money there is no real opportunity to progress within the company, when new roles come up they would rather hire outsiders who 90% of the time come in and can’t do the job they were hired for and rather than get rid of them more often than not another role is created for them.
We are a fairly large company with places all over the world and I think that senior management honestly think we are a big world class company who people would love to come and work for when in reality we are treated poorly with zero opportunities for any kind of training or development and most people cant wait to get out of the place.
It’s getting to the point where I can hardly face coming into work in the morning and basically do what I have to do in a state of depression for the day then go home, if I a carry on like this I will still be doing the same job doing the same old thing for the next 35 years, coupled with the fact that i have been "at risk" of redundancy four times over the past five years.
I started in a workshop based role and have had a few different roles within the company, I have been applying for other companies and although I have good experience and would be more than able to do most of them, I have nothing to show in the way of official qualifications only my school exams which at 33 years old were a long time ago!
I have been applying for loads of jobs but don’t seem to be getting anywhere and am struggling to keep positive, I just want to work hard feel like I have a future at the company and maybe earn some money at the same time!!
Has anyone else been in a similar situation and managed to turn things around?
Is it worth using one of the CV writing services? Maybe this is where I am going wrong.

LT - good post, no doubt almost everyone on here has been where you are some point in their career.

There’s often no need to endure the circumstances you describe.
The good news is, you can do something positive about it.
The bad news is, you’ll have to put some real effort in to realise any positive change; but it should end up being an enjoyable process if you’re genuinely motivated.
The other good news is that it’s easier to find your next role whilst in employment.
You may also decide that you need some effective coaching to help determine your plan and the immediate next steps in that plan.
But start with:
What would you enjoy doing next?
Are you competent to do it?
If so, review CV and begin the search.
If not, can you realistically gain the competencies to reach that role?
If you can, begin that development now.
This is the stuff I do so if you’d like any more support, just drop me a line.
