Supply Chain to Analyst

Been working in supply chain (freight forwarding) for 6 years now. Frankly the money is pretty st and I fancy a change now. Been looking online and there seems to be lots of analyst roles available. From supply chain analyst to finance analyst in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, government, etc. Money seems decent as well.

I have basic Excel skills. I can do pivot tables, vlookup's, basic equations. Do I need a broader range of Excel skills?? Any courses worth doing?? Anyone else do an analyst role if so how you find it?

There are different types of analyst I think. There are data analysts, who are excellent with Excel, can probably code in VBA or Python or similar, and are pretty good at maths. Then there are market analysts who understand fundamental drivers of price and the market, but are less good with dealing with huge data sets.


The better your computer skills and Excel abilities then the more doors you will open, but its not something you need to be fantastic at if you understand how a market works. If you've got an understanding of how supply chains work then you'd be better starting in that market.

I'd say build on the excel skills, learn some SQL and python, and go for a technical analyst role in a company that needs the freight industry experience.
