Just wondering if there are any people here with experience of this and are there any do's or dont's when applying?

The angle I am thinking of is bigging yourself up for one role but then having to do it again for a different role and whether they treat you from fresh on each application.......

One question could be "why do you want to join us as an IT engineer?" the next post might ask "why do you want to join us as a receptionist?" and youve got to then change tack with those answers unless you keep them generic.

Ever applied for one role and got turned down but then landed another job at the same place?

In my opinion this just singles you out as a time waster.

Focus your attention on specific jobs which suit your skillset and tailor your CV and covering letter for the role your are applying for.

Hiring managers will scan a CV looking for keywords. These are going to be found within the description of a job vacancy, particularly near the top of bulletpoint lists.

I applied for two slightly different roles with the same company before, but with the two jobs being on different sites.

Company was happy to interview me for both roles at once. Got turned down and offered a slightly different role again, at one of the sites.

Ultimately I didn't take that job, because it turned out to be less of an exciting new prospect than I had hoped for

But I think if you are applying for two completely different roles, it might strike them as a bit time-wastery. Receptionist and IT engineer sound completely different skill sets and even if you are qualified for both

If you applied at the company I currently work for you'd be ignored -- the reason is that all applications go to a single (third-party) recruitment app and the first thing it does is show you all the applications this person has made.

If it is noticed you blanket applied you would be auto-rejected.

I think your examples are a bit extreme, however if you applied for similar roles then I could understand why you applied twice. Of course a good HR dept would be actively reviewing your application and matching you up to all suitable vacancies
, however it is often left with the hiring manager, for each role, so therefore you may well have to apply twice.

Threrefore if you have seen two jobs in one company that you feel you have the experience for, apply twice explaining why.

I have seen this happen a few times. People over applying for a different position in the same company but normally for a better position. Its not always a bad thing as the individual seems to be trying to better themselves.

It does however get noticed and after a while the employee starts to realize they are not good enough, usually from not taking on feedback about prior interviews. They just seem to then exist in their current role which is no good for anyone. Shame but it happens. It also shows that they are not happy and want to move on.
