My other half started a new job today.

Contract signed with a 3-month notice period.

To cut a long story short, the job doesn’t look like it’s going to be for her.

Is she bound by the 3-month noitce period

Thanks

Does she have a trial period, things can be more flexible then,

I doubt they'd keep her donthat if it's her first day.

If they were awkward they could try but what would be the point.

On the other hand how does she know it's not the job for her after a day? Is it just first day nerves

It's natural to question your decision for the first few days.

Maybe stick with it a bit. My mate started a new job this year, and a fair number of (completely justified) "oh God, what are these clowns playing at?" factors that were encountered at the beginning were reduced significantly as he got his teeth into it and was able to influence things.

Probation period won't be three months, so I wouldn't worry about that. As others have said I would stick at it for a while yet as things will probably improve.

I'd be concerned if your OH had started a job important enough to come with a 3 month notice period but doesn't know if she has a probation period.

I'd expect probation to be 3-6 months with 1 week/month notice period within that.

I can sympathise with her. Back in the 90's I started my dream job. My first day wasn't good but I thought let's see how it goes when my direct line manager was back in the office. My second day he was back, and it got worse. By 5pm I'd decided it wasn't going to last.

Yes. Why would she not be?

Notice periods can be and sometimes are enforced by injunction. If unhappy, try to negotiate an early exit.

What has she discovered on day 1 to throw things up in the air to this extent?

You can probably negotiate an early exit - if she's unhappy it makes little sense to keep her on for the full three months

Well, if she has signed a contract which says 3 months then she can be.

She can always negotiate with her employer for a swifter exit.
