Anybody started a job & then taken on H&S duties? If so can I ask what if any effect it had on your salary?

£5k extra in my pocket and costs of CPD covered.

In my former industry we would have one H&S rep per depot, for each union. As the rail industry is different for each role it made sense, Aslef rep would look at different things to an RMT rep(cab issues for instance). All done for no extra pay , just a day not driving whilst the rep went out with a manager on an inspection. Seem to recall an 8 day training class one day a week, upto the individual to organise time off swapping restdays or shifts to suit. I currently do H&S checks as a volunteer in my local Oxfam shop , usual extra to my normal duties.
