Promotion - job title question
Discussion
I’m currently a manager and have been offered a promotion.
They have not yet decided on the job title for the promoted position as it new.
What should come after manager? Il still be a manager, my general responsibilities are increasing but generally it’s more of recognition for past and continued performance and excellent track record

Do you care? Are you getting paid more? Be careful with over inflated titles as it can make your cv look odd when you want to move on. I was made IT Director when I was nothing of the sort. I know have to modify my job title when applying for jobs that are more my grade.
But to answer your question I would say Senior Manager or Director is the next step up.

Nothing ever wrong with manager and I explained to MD today that I am in fact happy with my job title of
‘Such and such Manager’
But because they have since hired more ‘such and such managers’ that I would be overseeing it makes it difficult to keep the same title as right now we all are seen to be at the exact same level and due to the new responsibilities I will be requiring them to report to me for certain reports and il be managing the overall workload of the team along with mentoring new junior staff
It is not general manager position as I specialise in a set department.
The MD suggested ‘such and such’ manager team leader which in my opinion is rediculous and a bit of a joke title, despite it in theory being correct description.
I think the mistake was hiring in others with the same manager title as otherwise it would be a simple hierarchy.
Yes the promotion comes with considerable pay rise too (the more important thing for me)

The other difficulty is the position I am in is between my department and our overall commercial manager.
Therefore they are trying to get a title that fits between the two, as effectively the next step above me would be commercial manager.
This was the reason they don’t want me to be called senior manager as if I was then promoted further to commercial manager the title would look like a demotion, (their words not mine and not words I tend to agree with)
I just want to do my job well and be rewarded for it.
