My brother has been at his job two years, hasnt had a review so far or annual pay rise.

Apparently he’s content on salary and if offered the choice would actually rather have more holidays, he gets 30 but works bank holidays.

I’ve told him 2 years isn’t that long to be knowing on the managers door but maybe I’m wrong?, and is it less/more difficult getting more holidays than pay?

Annual leave is often contractual and consistent across the whole company. Therefore I'd have thought that negotiating additional leave will be harder than more pay.

Does he company allow him to buy extra holidays? I'd try negotiating a pay rise and using it to buy extra leave.

Certainly seems the case in bigger companies that they want everyone on the same allowance.

I had 27 days + bank holidays but since being took over but a big multinational I got bought out of 2 days leave so now only get 25.

In a similar boat where the extra leave is worth more to me than the money so I was a bit annoyed by that. Luckily I have two kids and that entitles me by law to be able to take unpaid parental leave so had 5 days of that this year so 30 days total + bank holidays. Essentially it's a way for me to buy extra leave which the company doesn't have a policy for biggrin

I asked him this, it’s a big car company, apparently sales get 35 days holiday after a certain time, but his department has 30.

What do you guys think about the time spent at the company, is 2 years too soon?

I will check regarding the buying holidays,

Hey, "if you don't ask" and all that.

Where I work you earn 1 extra day after 5 years, and then another after 10 years. After 20 years you then get a full extra week every year.

We can "buy" up to 5 days every year extra, with a small deduction each month to cover that cost.

Extra leave is a bit of a con in some roles they don't actually reduce your workload.

If it's a big company, forget it. The holidays will be set into company policy and any change for him would have to be then offered to others.

There may be good reasons why sales get an extra five days.

No harm in asking but I wouldn't hold out much hope.
