My father is an engineer and has worked for one company for ever, mum lecturers in a college and has done that for year, brother is a pilot and since qualifying has worked for three companies one of which went bust, sister is a junior doctor and has only qualified a year and a bit ago.

Me, I am proudly the black sheep and have worked in bars and restaurants as a waitress and behind the bar, in a furniture shop, in promotions which was basically giving out leaflets at exhibitions, as a holiday rep, in a logistic's office, in a lawyer's office and there are a few jobs I missed out. Been fired a couple of times but mostly left to change career!

I have been doing sales since May, it is a OK job, the money is good, they gave me a nice Scoda as a company car and I have decided to stick at it.

However a few days ago I got a job offer for the winter season to work as a ski rep. Half the pay, long hours, my mind say stay at what your doing my heart says go for it.

So share your career path and the jobs you have done

Got a job in London in 1998 , got promoted. In 2002 decided I didn't like London, found a company that did it in Dorset, got job at same level, stayed put.

So two.

Asset Management Analyst (London)
Telecoms Analyst (Sheffield)

I do have to say the US has almost a dim view if you are with the same company more than 2-3 years...

9 in total over a 16 year working life. Longest was 7.5 years, though I've had 5 jobs in the past 5 years which is causing me issues finding something long term as nobody wants to hire me

I started as a deputy assistant under-janitor at a USAF airbase just after one of the wars and after becoming inspired by the sound of the new fast jets, I swerved careers and eventually climbed to the very top of the tree in engineering to become a senior boiler-maker's nut polisher. bowtie

I have now retired on a pittance and live in a shoe box in a coned-off bit of central reservation on a busy motorway, living on the detritus that people throw out of their vehicles as they negotiate the contraflow's average speed cameras.

Well at the very least you have a smartphone with data access so you can't be doing too bad Sir.

In approximate order over the last 16 years or so, some of these concurrently with other jobs and education;

potwash
tractor mechanic
warehouse skivvy
machine feeder / dogsbody for fencing company
bicycle mechanic
construction / groundwork labourer
farm labourer
bicycle mechanic again
ground crew for a hot air balloon company
tree surgery groundsman
soldier
labourer for a staging supply company
test engineer

Lots of st jobs, many of which were hard physical work, long hours and minimum wage (looking at you, tree surgery and soldiering) so it's a nice change of pace to be in a professional role now, even if I am a bit later to the game than most.
I do miss working outdoors though, especially when the weather is nice

I started out taking quite a few jobs, maybe six or eight in three years.
I've worked for my current boss since 1983 when I was 21. Had a brief break when he started a new company and I took another direction but that was only for 18 months or so. Followed him to current company about twenty five years ago.
All in 36 years (broken) service, 25 years continuous... so far. I don't plan on changing anytime soon. smile

Paper round (2 years?)
Saturday Job at the Supermarket (2 years)
Summer job from Uni in an Oil Refinery (12 weeks), ended up doing some other weeks as they liked me.
University Industrial Placement Year Electronic Engineering (1 year funnily enough)
Current Job, same company as above, must have done well on my industrial year as the offered me a job (25 years this year!).

So essentially just one proper job! Still like it, pays well.
