A few years ago, quite sweeping legislation made it illegal to smoke in pubs, restaurants, bars etc. It was also made illegal to smoke in shared company vehicles.

Has anyone ever been prosecuted for smoking in a company van, car, or lorry?

That's the law, I haven't read it in any detail, but every day one sees van and lorry drivers smoking in their vehicles. Are they never prosecuted?

A lot seem to vape rather than smoke, which isn’t illegal.

On the scale of policing priorities, smoking is at the bottom.

I seem to recall that when this legislation first appeared someone had been pulled over, in a liveried van, for smoking.
It transpired that the driver was the businesses owner, also its only employee, and the only person with access to the van, he still received a fine.
Whether this actually happened or was a story, released to the press, for propaganda purposes, I don't know.

There have been stories of companies being fined for not having no smoking signs in their vans.

There may be signs in company vehicles but few seem to adhere to it.

Makes me laugh to see smokers with an arm out of the window and a lit cigarette as if it makes a difference

I know somebody who was challenged and told his boss that the sticker was on the passenger side of the cab therefore it was ok for him to keep smoking when he was driving.

Not me but my colleague at the time.

I think the only reason he was caught though is he threw the butt out the window and a council litter warden saw him. They fined him for littering and smoking in a company vehicle, think it was about £130 in total.

Parked in the lay by across the street from a town centre McD's, I dimped out my cig out of the window and finished my McD's tea.

Then, a cardboard copper showed up. "Do you know you can be fined for littering like that?" quoth she.

As I'd dropped only the burning cherry and a few shreds of baccy from my cig, I couldn't resist simply pointing downwards... at the burger and chip boxes, Mcflurry pots, milkshake cups, straws and paper bags strewn along the lay by.

The young proper copoer-errant blushed prettily, grinned and said, "OK, don't do it again." I think I made her day by saying, "Yes officer."

When this legislation came in (however many years ago), our company was hot on having no smoking signs in the company cars, however now it's never mentioned and if you asked me to go and get a no smoking sticker, I wouldn't have a clue were to get one.

It's one of those bloody stupid rules that just gets on my tits as it makes no difference whatsoever; a) no one at our place who has a co. car, smokes, b) if they did, they wouldn't smoke in their car as they are respectful and it is against company policy anyway and c) if you were the sort of person who'd smoke In a company car, against company policy then you are a bit of a knob so would ignore the sign anyway.

Signs are just a way of avoiding liability.
No smoker ever thought "can I light up in here? I better see if theres a sign"
