I think people wold kill to be in my position so why am I...
Discussion
wanting to change.
I work in Regional Management for an Automotive company. I am good at my job. I like cars so working in automotive is ideal. I get paid quite well, not millions but enough in most people's terms. But I do have a racing habit, so another 10k wouldn't go a miss. I get the usual big company benefits like a decent pension, bonus. I get a company car fully expensed that I change every 6 months. * the car itself is a bit boring, but it's free*
As I am home based I get to organise my own diary and whilst it is busy I have the flexibility to drop the kids off and sometimes pick them up from school. I get home early (anywhere from1 - 4 pm) enough to complete my emails/ calls etc by 6 pm. I can make diner and have it on the table with my kids by not much later than 6.30. I've been doing the job 5 years so I can 'phone it in' and still do a good enough job. I have a very good boss and my closest colleagues are also my mates. When we are together it is a laugh. I am a bit bored of the work, but not due to lack of work, just the same old same old. The culture of the business is tough. It takes no prisoners and there is no shortage of work. But I am ok with that.
I get to meet lots of different people, travel the country outside of rush hours,I get paid to argue and make the point, I get paid to sell, audit, measure and all the other regional management stuff you have to do.
My work gives me opportunities to reduce the cost of my racing, fuel allowance, cheap or free parts, sometimes help when I need specialist tools.
So why do I want to look at something else? Am I mad? Someone tell me to 'get a grip' I think I have everything most people want ( decent work life balance and enough money) but it's still not enough????!

If you want to change, change. If you don't want to change, don't. Problem solved
And I definitely wouldnt kill for your job either, not even a fly
not quite as simple as that. I have a lot of positives so finding something better would be hard... And yes I should have said *some people would kill for*

Is there something else you already have in mind? Or is it just a desire to stop doing what your doing?
therein lies the rub. I can't think of anything that would be demonstrably better. Maybe doing the same role with a *better* manufacturer but then you leave your colleagues behind and run the gauntlet of a bit of a nobber for a bossMr Gearchange said:
I have the complete opposite problem - hate my job but won’t leave for some reason...
If it’s just the boredom of the day-to-day why not take on some additional projects or could you go for a promotion?
there is no time for projects, and remote working kind of precludes it. Promotion would mean working in the office doing the 8-6 thing...If it’s just the boredom of the day-to-day why not take on some additional projects or could you go for a promotion?
I have a similar work life balance (dropping off kids, cooking, work from home) and wouldn't change it for the world. I do more hours as I often have to do some at the weekend and evenings. Some travel but not onerous. I work for a global company with all of the tech for collaboration.
Wouldn't change it for the world. To get to the next rung in the ladder I will need to travel a LOT more to play the games (going to a single office makes no sense in our model) but I'm not willing to do that given the memories and support I am giving my daughters.
Also don't miss:

Also don't miss:
- The commute. Seriously, f*ck that. Misery. Unless it was a fun drive. But I can do those anyway as I have the Dales on my doorstep
- Office politics where people trail into the same office
- Office complaints about who has a window desk, if they have changed the coffee blend, sandwich selection has changed, etc
I don’t think you’re alone by any means.
I own a pretty successful company that’s been trading for nearly 25 years.
I have all the benefits of a big fat PH Company Director (big house, M5, nice seats on the plane with nice holidays etc.) yet some days I have simply had enough and the grass appears to be very green in the other side.l of whatever road I’m looking at that day and I suspect most would give quite a lot to be sat where I am?
I guess it’s much like looking at your wife and then looking at that FAF girl in the street and wanting to have a give her a good old rooting, but ultimately we know her s
t still smells the same?!
That said, we’re only here for what.....three score and ten plus a few good ones if we’re lucky. I suppose then if you’re unhappy.....,
Change.

I agree with this to an extent, however I have never earned a lot of money, and will never be a company director so I suppose my idea of the situation is a little different. I have changed career many times though, and sometimes ended up earning less money. Personally it doesnt bother me, I just buy less stuff that I don't need. The way I see it is that if a large percentage of your life is spent working then you may as well tailor it to be as enjoyable and worthwhile as possible, otherwise personally my older self would resent myself for staying comfortable and wasting the chance to change things and make life a little more interesting
