Hi all, I'm after a bit of advice.

Voluntary redundancy has been offered at work, and I've applied as the package is pretty good and I'm keen to get out anyway - it was already my plan to look for something else in the summer.

Having spoken to my boss, he's outlined his plans for the department that my role won't go, but it sounds as though it will change significantly from being a full-time manager to 50% manager / 50% developer.

My job title is lead developer, but for the past 2 and a half years that job hasn't involved any actual development, more just a team manager / tech PM.

So my question is, if I don't get offered VR (I don't find out for a few weeks), do I have a claim that they have changed my job significantly enough that I should have been given VR?

Just to reiterate - I'm keen to get out and would rather do it with a package that's going to allow me to take a few months off to recover from the past few years which have been stressful... might even go for a career change - I need the time to evaluate.

Thanks, DB

Depends on how many are to be made redundant.

Company is duty bound to explore VR before compulsory redundancies. It may be possible someone would be a suitable candidate for your "new" post and thus avoid compulsory redundancy. Company should provide training and support too.

They may well be cheaper than you too, so would present an attractive option for the future.
