Sister was given weeks notice last Friday its an events company and reason given Covid 19 which I understand. She lives with partner who earns ok / also savings so not entitled to UC, at moment its looks like JSA only she entitled to unless I missed anything in the Chancellors speach today?

My understanding was that if you were employed as of 28th Feb the firm could apply for support in paying wages (even if they have been put at risk of redundancy since then).

From BBC

Treasury tell me wage subsidy WILL apply to firms where bosses have already had to layoff workers in crisis - as long they're brought back into workforce and instead granted leave of absence. Workers in this situation might want to get on the phone.

If she has over 16k savings, not entitled to UC and tbh, she’s probably better off on JSA if she’s worked regularly. However it does vary according to circumstances. As above, if she was employed at the point of 28th Feb, she should be able to claim 80% salary.

As I understand it, she needs them to take her back on, but bench her with pay, then they as the employer claim back from the government.

It looks like employers can get out of this if they want to.

My teenage brother worked in the kitchen of a major sushi chain. He had worked there less than 2 years. Last week he's told no longer required, we'll phone you if/when you need you again. They're not going to be helping them with this 80% thing so it appears for now he's just going to be going on regular jobseekers allowance.

He can't drive on his own. He had his test booked for the next couple of weeks and they've been binned for 3 months at least. He'll be able to get to local supermarkets to work in their shop though, if they're hiring.
