Holidays cancelled - have to save them for sick days
Discussion
Hi,
The company I work for has told us that all holidays are now cancelled and that we can not book any for the rest of the year. The reason that they have given us is that we need to save the holiday entitlement to use as sick days if we are ill.
Are they allowed to do this ? We have also been told that we are not allowed to take unpaid leave if we need the occasional day.
In my contract it says that we are not allowed to carry over holiday from one year to the next, so assuming that I get lucky and I am not ill, that means I would loose all of my holiday (they refuse to state if they would change this.
We have also been told that new contracts will be issued, with terms stating that they can put us on short time and reduce the wages by an unspecified amount without notice and that no limit to the reduction has yet to be decided. HR indicate that the notice period may be dropped from 3 months to 2 weeks in the new contracts.

This is likley to be one of those situations where you're going to have to take a pragmatic view: how badly do you want to keep your job in the current situation? You haven't been there two years so you may be liable to being released without reason & any legal challenge to what they are propsing will take a lot of time.
You might consider a job in the hand is worth holding on to & then look elsewhere in a few months time. Look on the bright side, if you find one then a two weeks notice period could be very useful.

it was, I'd spoken to them before this all kicked off, they need to ramp up their IT staff so calleed and asked if I was still available.. so jumped at the offer. Current place have decided that they dont want to change my notice period now as it would leave them stuffed.. I am still going to the new place as I'v seen the true colours of my current place
