Laid off this morning due to covid-19. I work in construction and I'm self employed.
Long story short seems a lot of sites are closing at the moment. There's lots of temporary delivery driver jobs I've applied for a dozen or so including Tesco.
I've got an assessment on Friday with one of said jobs.
9 hour routes a day.
£26 Van rental a day.
Reviews don't fill me with confidence though;

I'm in two minds whether or not to bother going now.

i raised this issue on the other thread when people said what a great job the government is doing. I'm agency no income now, no support and left to fend for myself whilst wfh and furough will get paid.
Well 100k looking to claim now and rising, and still no proper support, it is a shambles, the government has looked after the people who lets be honest don't need much help, the self employed and mimimum wage are pretty f
ked.
it would have been easy to give everyone a payment and then a full lockdown instead of the farce that is existing now.

Can you not ask your now former employer to record you as Furlough? Ignore that.
It appears the Self Employed will be afforded some protection presently however so fingers crossed.

We are still waiting to hear what assistance will be provided to the Self Employed, over and above basic Universal Credit.

Yes I understand it isn't a fantastic job.My only other option is universal credit. My car does north of 20MPG on a good day it simply isn't enough I can not afford to not work. I've got two very young daughters.
How much do you earn a week after tax? I'm usually clearing £500 + a back hander off the brickies usually for 8 hours a day give or take half hour either side.

Who sorts out your tax and why are you not counting cash in hand for tax purposes?If you truly are self employed surely you have some money set aside for tax, which would be due in July,use that if necessary and speak to HMRC to reach an agreement to repay in instalments, unprecedented times.
There are something like 50,000 temp jobs due to covid
see below, hope this helps,
