Company Car Tax and Coronavirus
Discussion
Sat here wondering if anyone is thinking the same as me...
For anyone else who gets a Company Car, how are you feeling about the Tax Burden now its say on your drive and you can hardly use it?
Is it a Benefit anymore? I've done no more than 2 Miles this week and am a bit loathed to pay the Tax to be honest

Is it any different to having your private car sat outside, unused whilst still paying the insurance, RFL (or whatever it's called before some pedant gets in as everyone knows what is meant), breakdown cover, HP/PCP/PCH payment, possibly savage depreciation?
Nope I'm not bothered.

Do a deal with your employer for them to take it back, leave it at work for the next three months or six months or however long this takes and tell HMRC you’ve not got a company car at the moment.
I’m sure that can be sorted quite easily and all parties will be happy to help so you can save a few hundred pounds.
You can suspend your sky sports subscription at the moment too, that will save you £20 a month.

Suppose you also want to put an expense claim in for all the additional gas and electric you're using being at home every day?
Fairly sure no-one else is thinking the same as you. Hope that satisfies your curiosity.
We’ve actually joked about that but I certainly wouldn’t have the nerve to put anything on expenses! Fairly sure no-one else is thinking the same as you. Hope that satisfies your curiosity.

You must be a joy to have as an employee. I'm sure your Boss will have this at the top of his/her worry list at the moment so best give them a call and sort something out.
Boss might like it. He'd save the employer's national insurance on the saved tax benefit. (Or something like that

There was already a thread this week, where one chap was talking about claiming for the additional wear & tear to his carpet at home due to having to work from home. Fairly sure no-one else is thinking the same as you. Hope that satisfies your curiosity.
I think that it was a parody post, but there are people out there who genuinely think like this.

This, we are doing that for our company car usersI’m sure that can be sorted quite easily and all parties will be happy to help so you can save a few hundred pounds.

Luckily two weeks ago I opted out of the company car, let it go yesterday. Even if my allowance gets taken off me, I’d be chuffed just saving the tax. Gone down to one car in the household, which makes sense with us both home working for a while.
Though when I do return to work, it’ll be a rush quickly getting a used car.

I've got some of our company's pool fleet either up my partner's drive or my parents'.
Boss asked who could take vehicles home as they were considered unsafe at the office car park.
SadlyI have nothing interesting, 2 Mercedes Citans, a Peugeot Expert and a SEAT Leon and according to my last email as I'm now on furlough I mustn't wash, clean or tidy them in any way.

I’ve heard my company are looking at suspending car allowances seeing as no one is using their car for commuting.
With a bit of jiggery-poker we absorbed car allowance into salary some time ago - so it’s now long forgotten. Instead we get the full HMRC mileage allowance - so that’s not working too well at the moment.Years ago I worked for a company that charged a fixed amount per month for private use of fully expensed company cars - it was done by deduction from expenses and almost every new employee would try and not pay it while away on holiday.

Some of my clients have had exactly that complaint lodged by their employees - 20% less money and higher household bills.......... They may have wanted the company to assist.... Of course, we might have mentioned their decrease in travel costs.......Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
