Hello. I need new brake pads on a Jaguar XK, which is my main transport. Travel to do this work is reasonable (legal opinion, source: me. IAAL). Ample space to work whilst maintaining social distance - in barn if wet, in yard if dry. Reasonable rates offered, payment can be made by paypal or bank transfer. Also tea (made wearing gloves and mask) and knock knock jokes (shouted through window). All house occupants have been living in secluded property, and none have symptoms. Please have apprenticed experience as a car mechanic or other professional training, and bring your own tools - keen amateurs thanks but no thanks.

Location two miles from junction 7 M40.

Edited to get the car right!

If you've got the space to work, why not get the stuff and do it yourself? Simple servicing jobs sat out in the sunshine can be quite therapeutic.

If I had the skills to change the brake pads on a car, why would I post this thread? Teach myself car repair by working on safety-critical components? No thanks.

Also, the economics of fixing my own cars while I could be working don't stack up. I am paid by the hour.

The car is driveable and road legal, but it has the low brake pads warning illuminated.

I know a mobile mechanic not that far from you - it depends if he's in the UK or Ireland at the moment.

I'd be grateful for his contact details. The mobile mech I used to know moved to Worcestershire (probably to get away from my horrible cars).

I get this.. I’ve replaced superchargers/turbos/EGR’s/door & window mechs etc without issue but refuse to change pads. My mechanic mate laughs at me as he knows I’m more than capable but it’s not going to happen.

i've just had feedback from his sister - he's in ireland - what a bummer
if you get really stuck - i'll do it - it's almost exactly the same layout as what BMW use, and i've had plenty of practice on those...

Fair enough, nothing wrong with that.

Many thanks for all replies - Jaaaaaaaaag looks to be now sorted.

NEXT ONE: anyone fancy welding up a rusty ride on mower cutter disc? Bodge job acceptable! The thing just needs to be usable, not pretty!

BV: Brake pads is a very simple job to do, bit messy but straightforward if you have the tools smile

Yes, I am going to take my daughter in a fast and heavy car on which I have fixed the brakes because someone on the internet told me it was easy to do. Yes, despite never previously having fixed the brakes on any car, I'm really going to do that.

You mean well, no doubt, but I have no relevant experience, do not know if I have the right tools, and it's the brakes, FFS. It's not the courtesy light or the cupholder lid. There are things that I will attempt with my bodge skills and random tools to fix on a car, but this is not one of them.

Conversely/perversely - I do my brakes myself for the cost savings, but also to be sure that it's been done right! Wouldn't want them bodged by a random spanner monkey , even at a dealership! smile

A mate and I had no bloody clue what we were doing but we managed it via following a YouTube video. It was very easy (E39)

1. I don't want to do it myself.

2. I have found a professional to do it.

3. I. Don't. Want. To. Do. It. Myself.
