Ive been at my employer for 1 month, on a 3 month contract. I have been adcvised by my GP to shield due to coronavirus threat, I am high risk. I spoke to the employer and they advised I will get nothing as not been there long enough. But looking on the Gov website it says you get it after 'some' work. Is there a timeframe?

A shielding employee can be put on Furlough... Your company may not be aware of the newer changes.

30th March means you're a month too late to be considered for going onto furlough.

You should be able to get some SSP though - see here

i think getting furlough would be nice but taking the piss a bit, i just want something as going from earning 1.4k a month to nothing will be hard.

sadly this is the position of alot of people, the only other option is can your previous employer put you on furlough?

That job was 2 weeks. Unfortunately since being laid off in October last year by British manufacturer after 2 years service, was supposed to go back in Feb but cancelled, it has been very hard to find long term work just been taking what I can along with my illness.

I was happy to work 3 months until I got this letter. If I don't get ssp will try universal credit which is 74 a week

An employer can place you on Furlough at any time as long as you qualify - on the payroll on 28 Feb does so.... Ask them to do so so you can shield.

You must be Furlough'd for a minimum of 21 days however and then you can go back to work or continue or you can return to work and then go back on furlough (again for a 21 day minimum)
