Am I reading that correctly?

Both self employed through choice so eligible for tax credits of £400 a month?

Did not know that was a thing.

As the couple in the article found out the Govt is trying to push people off tax Credits and onto UC which (AIUI) isn't as generous.

I couldn’t understand why they were entitled to anything. That’s what confused me.

If you’re not making any money self employed why not get a PAYE job instead like the majority of people do. Don’t understand why anyone would be entitled to benefits because their own business isn’t performing.

If you know what's good for your blood pressure you really don't want to start educating yourself on the whole ''I'm a self employed cupcake maker/children's party facepainter/living room nail bar owner, working 16 hours a week'' scam.

Most of these people don't actually have any customers, clients or earned income, they just claim to have and shuffle money in and out of their bank account to make it look like income from working the requisite 16 hours per week at their hobbyjobs

Seriously, just don't go there, you'll regret it.
