RAF Reservist - Worth it?
Discussion
Interested to know if anyone has direct or indirect experience of being in the reserves, specifically for the RAF.
Im 28, contemplated joining the RAF and the Police when I was younger but fell into an easy albeit boring public sector life.
Progression at my work is quite easy but I’ve been considering ways to earn extra money and also thought (especially now with the pandemic) that I could do with a hobby, something to fill up time the occasional weekend.
I understand it would be a 27 day commitment per year which includes a 15 day training spell (my work would pay for this 2 week period).
Essentially what I’m looking to find out is if it’s worth the commitment and what autonomy I would have in terms of choosing when and where I “volunteer”?
Specifically looking at the Driver and Police role if that helps.
Thanks in Advance

Definitely worth giving it a go. It'll be very different to what you're doing now and you'll get to see and do things you would never be allowed to do in a 'normal' job. Plus you can walk away if you decide it's not for you. I've no experience with the driver and police roles in the Reserves but have direct experience of it as aircrew.
