Done my self isolation....no symptoms and ready to go back to work. However, against Gov and NHS guidelines my employer (I’m self employed but just have the one employer) has said I must return a negative test. I have subsequently found out that I could be testing positive for another 3 months!

What to do? Can’t get any work anywhere else and they’ve got loads of work waiting for me...if I test negative!

What 'might' happen tomorrow, 'could' be yesterday's problem!
Just do a Test and stop thinking to hard.

Just done a test...fingers crossed!

So, how often should I now take a test....every day?

I have to lie in order to get one as I am not asymptomatic nor do I have any new symptoms!

Just to note if you are "self employed" but only work for one company, you may well be deemed to be an employee... (other criteria apply of course).

You’ll be fine. It’s only PCR tests that have that level of sensitivity (and even their chance of picking up a non-infectious patient reduces significantly after 15 days).

Chances are you’ll doing a LFD swab test and they won’t return a positive in your circumstances.

If you are unlucky enough to keep picking it up, then yes, you will. But if you pick it up, isolate for the required time and test at the end of that period, then no you won't.

Your employer is showing some diligence in protecting themselves and others.

We have been doing the ONS monthly swabs, all 4 in my family tested positive mid Dec and we were rough for a few weeks. About 4 weeks later we did our next scheduled test and only one of us tested positive again. Luckily as per new guidelines if you are part of a government test program you don't have to re isolate when you test positive again although track and trace were not aware of that and were going mental at us down the phone !
I think in your case it's likely you will be clear, but if not prepare for track and trace to hunt you down.

I took a PCR test this morning and am waiting on the result.

Ive got an LFD quick test this evening!

Should be interesting with T and T if one is positive and the other negative!

In that case you’d have to go with the PCR as a much more accurate test. LFD’s are about 79% accurate in a lab, 73% accurate used by medics, and 58% when used by the general public. It’s also more accurate the higher your viral load is.

The “issue” with PCR is that it picks up old viral material in the body so while the test is positive, you may not be infectious.

If I were in your position and genuinely symptom free, fully recovered, if the PCR test was positive but the LFD negative, I’d give it 5 days then test with LFD only.

Edited for spelling.

Great news Benny.

I'd be more worried about getting huckled from hmrc for claiming to be self employed with only one customer.

Common theme on PH unfortunately.
