If you were offered a position with a clause requesting if you left the position within a few years you would be liable for employment agency fee would you accept the position? U love the place from what I've seen but there is always that doubt and I know the fees are over £3000.

Nope, not a hope - there are lots of reasons (on both sides) that jobs don't work out and agency fees are very much a cost of business. Bonus/training costs, yes in some circumstances, but not this.

I've taken contracts with clauses where if I leave and go to work for the client or partner who I met on the project then I have to pay the agent a fee. I've negotiated these down but never actually found myself in a position to end up paying.
I don't think I'd sign up to the broader clause you mention.

I wouldn't be accepting the job if that clause was included!

I can understand some of the training costs if you leave within a few months - but agency fees is a complete no go in my opinion!

Clauses like this where they effectively force you to stay at a company out of fear of financial ramifications do not help anyone.

Cheeky barstewards biggrin

They're liable to repay all or part of the placement fee to the Employer if things don't work out but that's a reduction in profits to them, it shouldn't be passed on to the Applicant

No, the employer should have agency rebate fees in their agreement with the agency, I've never known an organisation that places a rebate clause on the candidate.

As others have said, training expenses however, especially in more technical roles is often recouped, along with University fees for MBA's etc.
