If you were to be away from work for something Covid related eg isolation, could an employer introduce a variation to their sickness policy that basically states unless that person is double vaccinated and can/has proved their vaccination status OR are medically exempt, they will only be paid SSP rather than their wage?

My boss suggested to me today that, no covid related ssp would be paid to unvaccinated employees that this was law.

I've not been able to find anything about it and it sounds like discrimination to me.

There is something on the ACAS website that suggests SSP is minimum. My concern would be the specific exclusion for Covid. I get 12 months full pay sick but this would not apply for Covid had I not been double vaccinated.

discrimination is allowed within reason, discrimination against protected terms in the Equality act ISN'T allowed.

Why should the Employer be financially penalised if an individual chooses not to be vaccinated?

Where do you draw the line though? Sports, drinking and smoking can all have an affect on the employer. I'm not here to debate that. My employer stated "ssp was reduced for the unvaccinated" which I hadn't heard of hence why I questioned it.

The OP refers to exceptions if an employee is "medically exempt".

Of course they can. However if there were precautions a person could take to mitigate the effects of each of the above, and the Employee refused to take them, then the Employer should be allowed to reduce sick pay.
