Not money, bonuses.

More along the lines of additional annual leave, extra time off.

Etc. Any ideas, what's worked for you?

I do like my Friday afternoons off (every other week).

Also if you can figure out "swag" that people actually want. We got North Face jumpers and a good quality flask/water bottle thing last year.

More questions than answers, but may help others.

1/ Is it an environment where everyone is in the same location?
2/ Will it be blanket or performance related? If so does it sit outside of a regular performance reviews?
3/ When you say not money/bonuses, is there actually even a little money to spend on something?
4/ What is the salary range? Someone on minimum wage may be motivated by something different to management level.

I’ve always been a big believer in additional annual leave - not taxable and worth more than money.

Ask the staff what they want.

If there's one thing that boils my piss it's an employer that rolls out a bunch of spurious perks and claims to be an amazing place to work, while yet again you make cuts at home because council tax and energy bills have rocketed while your salary has done fk all.

Completely unnecessary if you make the work environments (physical and psychological) pleasant places to spend time. Keep the basic premise that happier staff are productive staff at the forefront of everything you do and you don't even have to offer salaries above benchmark.

A business I used to visit had a car valeter visit every friday afternoon, discouraged skiving and everyone's car got cleaned foc.

NIce to have a clean car for the weekend, and probably not much outlay.

My current (and previous employer) spontaneously offered up an extra days leave here and there..."time for you!"

Bit cheesy, but i am off this Friday for day eMTB'ing, no kids, stress reduced and i'll have a coffee and cake at the end of the ride with a mate. My wife who works in public sector looks at me like i have 2 heads when i say the CEO emailed us saying...have a day for yourself!

Not useless. Just reinforces the hierarchy of the life they chose.

The OP was asking for ideas, not a 'one size fits all'

Small rural packaging warehouse, maybe 10 employees, seemed to work.

To put it another way it pisses off the people who don't drive because it's a perk that only some benefit from. So whilst it might "motivate and reward" some people it will demotivate others. So the OP is no better (and possibly worse) off.

OP - one of the things our place does is putting £150 per person per year into a kitty for "Events". Teams can decide how they want to use this throughout the year.

Why was there a risk of skiving?

Agreed.

I’m not interested in certificates or nights out or freebie branded tat or any of the other pointless crap which companies like to dish out as ‘rewards’. Directors don’t get this stuff when they hit their targets, they get bonuses, so why can’t the same apply to the rest of the team? If my employer wants to know how reward & motivate me, I would like more time off, more money or both.

In some roles "additional annual leave" is a bit of a con. It just means you have the same amount of work to do in less time.

But by Christ it's better than "team event money". People don't want to spend more time with the team. They do want more time with their chosen people.

Horses for courses, find out what motivates them. For me it would be a Duvet Day eg able to have a lie in and get to work mid or late morning.

Not on a Friday.
