Good Morning folks

A friend of mine had a nasty road accident a few years ago. This left him with a very weak right side of his body and as a result he cannot walk in a straight. He has also developed some spasticity on his right side of the body.

Recently, he managed to secure an office job. However. although the staff were ok with him at first, they gradually started distancing themselves from him and now they hardly talk to him.

How can this issue be addressed? My friend says he wants to leave that job, bt he could face the same stuation in another job?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Is this a disability issue or a personality issue? I appreciate this person is your friend but is there something else going on?

Even not being disabled offices are topic places. I started a new job, second day this person was very nasty for no reason. i left after a month as you spend so much time there it isn't good when you are in a position. Maybe your friend could work from home.

What has your friend done so far to address any issues real or perceived? How successful have they been?

Any real resolution is going to need a dialogue and an understanding from both sides.

I had similar situation following a road accident, went into work doubled over in pain and struggling to walk. Wore black trainers which seemed a massive issue, then management decided to move shelving and laughed and joked when I explained I couldn't help.

They refused to help me so I signed myself off and told them in no uncertain terms that my health mattered more and politely told them to go and fk themselves.

Good Norning Folks

Many thanks for your help.

As far as I'm aware, this a disability issue and a personality issue. He has spoken to his line manager but things have not changed much in the office.

Why is it a disability issue? Nothing you mention says anything about his disability being used against him?

Discrimination does not have to be direct. You can also have indirect discrimination in the law.

By whom though? . And again what you have written doesn't apply to what the OP has posted. How is this guy at a direct disadvantage to anyone else?

This clearly looks like a personality issue, maybe this guy is just not being friendly? Maybe he needs to address the issues of his personality?

How is that disability discrimination??

I am not saying that be is being discriminated against based on a disability. In any case, the facts need to be tested and opinion doesn't convert to fact necessarily. But, there is a potential case. Of course, the post is so vague that it will be impossible to really assess. These sorts of cases are never as simple as that seem and you never get the full picture in a coupe of posts nor the right advice from a couple of posts written on a phone.

Have a read around indirect discrimination and you will see how it works generally.

Yeh i understand how it works, but it is like a shogun approach to the question, because someone is disabled doesn't automatically mean all actions against them are discriminatory direct ot indirect, and just found it odd you mentioned it.

Exactly. If you read what I wrote I did not write that "all actions against them are discriminatory".
