Hi,

Got to the point in my exec work life that i have come to the realisation that i need a career and performance coach to move the dial on a couple of personal development points to climb the ladder to the next career rung.

Boss (c-suite) is coaching me independently after raising a couple of issues/events, but i need to turn the dial a bit more personally and outside of work - because anything paid for by the firm ultimately has performance reports going back into it..

My issue is i am having a couple of problems in quantfying those problems and challenges eloquently into a target/goal/objective to identify an appropriate coach. I think i need a coach to support me intitially to find a coach..

Anyone else been through this? any coaching recommendations?

TIA.

I’ve tried to PM you but you don’t accept emails.

Try Googling Geoff Rolls. If you’re looking for a PH reason I know he works with Red Bull.

There are many similarities between coaching and mentoring since both involve a one-to-one relationship that provides an opportunity for individuals to reflect, learn and develop. However, when comparing coaching with the traditional understanding of mentoring, there are some key differences.

The term ‘mentoring’ originates from Greek mythology. Odysseus entrusted his house and the education of his son to his friend, Mentor, saying to him, ‘tell him all you know.’ In practice, 'mentoring' has come to be used interchangeably with 'coaching'.

In spite of the variety of definitions of mentoring, all the experts appear to agree that it has its origins in the concept of apprenticeship, when an older, more experienced individual passed down his knowledge of how the task was done and how to operate in the commercial world.

Some commonly agreed differences between coaching and mentoring today include coaching usually being an in-house sport with an experienced colleague supporting a less experienced colleague with their work.

Mentoring on the other hand is usually considered supporting an individual to develop holistically and doesn’t require any knowledge of the industry they currently work in.

Mentoring others for those that participate in that find it a most rewarding experience. Happy to have a chat off-line if you’re still looking.
