Response time for a job application?

I've applied for a job recently in a pretty niche area, probably only 10 applicants maximum.. closing date was three weeks ago and i've heard nothing back.. is this normal? do you chase them? (FYI i haven't applied for a job in close to 20 years so have no idea how long it can take) do you just assume they are not interested?

Well if you dont ring them and ask, you definitely arent getting the job are you at this rate?

Pick up the phone, ask them! They might be waiting for a call, who knows?

Definitely call. I've found recently that despite being desperate for workers, most companies are shockingly slow at getting back. Probably short staffed though ha ha! Same position as you, I've been applying after 11 years in my current role and couldn't believe how bad some are at responding or even remembering what you've applied for!
