Qualifications that almost guarantee you a steady job

A lot of people study or learn a lot of useless crap these days

What are some qualifications that get you a good steady career?

Some that I've thought of

Nursing /Occ therapy etc Healthcare related degree
Any degree + teaching quals
AAT
CIPD HR
CIPS purchasing
HGV licence
C&G/NVQs in certain trades

Anything else a bit more outside the box?

I'd say any skilled hands on qualification will see you well these days. I've never been out of work and generally have a number of opportunities presented to me each month.

Also seems to be a shortage of candidates in my trade (mechanical and electrical technician) whenever I'm looking to hire people.

Basically any recognised trade or professional qualification (Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant, Dentist.....)

Sort of true. As an IRATA L3 myself, I’ve found that you can find ‘steady’ work pretty easily as long as you don’t mind travelling around a bit. Day rates (as self employed) circa £200-£250 for a L3 so not brilliant but not awful.
Takes a few years at least to get to that level & as a Level 1 you are looking at anything from around £100 to £150 a day.

More can be made if you get onto PTS railway works, or geotechnical stuff but it requires more outlay on courses and you get into the realms of not only being away but working nights.

Offshore/wind is a potential good earner but it’s where lots of rope techs want to end up so it’s a competitive market & very much a closed one too- if you’re ‘in’, you’re ok but to crack the door open is hard.
Also needs a fair bit of money spent on additional courses, all of which have expiry dates. A few guys I know have spent multiple £££ on BOISET, MIST, blade courses etc and not ended up on trips despite previous experience on rigs etc…

Medicine and Dentistry have to be the two standout ones.

Nothing else offers the same guarantees and returns IMO.

Wonder what the worst returns are, Criminology and Psychology spring to mind.

i reckon even with a green one you could get work in London every day of the week at labourer rates.

Local/central government and most public sector don't necessarily value qualifications. It's more about capabilities and experience.

Once you're in, there's lot of opportunities to move around and sometimes up. Some will fund or part fund formal qualifications on the job. And it ticks the 'steady career' box.

Electronics Eng degree / Computer Systems Eng degree or anything similar. Very short of these skills in the UK, more often then not you have recruit now from abroad to get the right candidates.

Being willing to bury dead people. No qualifications needed. And a good steady supply of customers. Recession proof, pandemic proof, probably even survive a nuclear war in good shape.

Most trade apprenticeships, did mine 10 years ago, now have 3-5 recruiters ringing me every week who are head hunting for technicians.

I cant speak for down south but up north theyre one quite a bit more than minimum wage
