How does Indeed work?

I’ve just posted a job ad on Indeed, which (without boring everyone) is basically a technical support role in a business which installs loft ladders, boarding and insulation.

So far I have had about 7 or 8 responses, all of whom are in IT, with (it appears) some significant experience in Tech Support - so I can see how they might assume that tech support is always IT related rather than ‘on the tools’, however - the text in the ad makes it very clear that this is a role where you will be up and down ladders and requires some (albeit basic) joinery/construction skills.

Even though several of the applicants claim to have “excellent attention to detail” it’s clear they haven’t read the ad, but there are so many of them that I’m starting to wonder; does Indeed fire these across automatically or something. I find it hard to believe that people would apply for a role without at least a cursory glance at the Job Description. Do I simply ignore them ‘cos they’re idiots or is it Indeed doing them no favours?

I’d say technical support is a poor description for what you’re looking for. Not that this excuses people not reading the bad, but with the state of the IT job market at the moment I can imagine a lot of people just hitting Easy Apply on anything and everything.

I suspect you’re right, but I’m struggling to come up with a better title for someone who’s role is to help our fitters with the technical aspects of the job, ie: floor loadings, weight limits, ladder arcs, insulation depths etc.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I have been advertising for a Technical Support Manager for an FM contractor. Every aspect of the JD including the ‘essential’ elements refers to FM including specific qualifications relating to electrical maintenance, asbestos management etc etc

Most applications come from IT people. No use for the role and also it seems not much use in IT either if they either can’t be bothered to read the ad or whatever automated system they have built is automatically making an application

It's too easy to set up an alert and just bang in an application - there's no downside for an applicant, sadly (My last assignment before I said fk work was to implement one of this type of system - can you tell?!)

As soon as I got to "technical support" I thought IT... and I work in IT!

Needs to be far more obvious in the first instance that this is a skilled/manual/tradesman type job. Never mind how many IT bods have mistakenly applied for it... how many perfect candidates have seen the title and not looked any further?
