I'm applying for jobs at the moment (last few months) and there are far fewer than before and the responses are almost non existent despite my skill at writing CVs etc. I see a lot of 'experts' saying it is pointless for me, an experienced senior marketing manager, and it feels like they are right.

The main alternative seems to be to make my CV short/concise and focussed on a key area (for me EV charging, Solar, UPS plus some previous oil/gas) and pitch myself as a part time (current buzzword is 'fractional') marketing manager to companies in that sector but this does seem like I'll be pitching myself to companies who aren't even thinking about a marketing resource which feels like it is going to be a challenging to even get a response.

I am wondering if I should even post them a letter and CV as they get so many emails.

Thoughts and have you found a job from anything other than a job board?

People seem to use Linkedin

I can't stand it but my wife has had some success in both recruiting reasonably senior people and getting new work streams on board.

Probably a good idea to see marketing yourself as a project and apply your skills as if you were a client.

I'm on the other side of this - hiring - It is very strange at the moment. Especially for something like senior marketing manager which does appear to be one of the areas that is considered "most AI replaceable" imho which also partially explains your observation that there are far fewer roles out there.

LinkedIn is the main place I would be looking, but I think it is much more likely that you'll get a role through someone you know rather than being yet another blind application.

- to be blunt though - If you are a senior marketing manager, have you tried marketing yourself? - that's where I would start - job hunting today is essentially Organic social media + BDR. / outbound prospecting + conversion etc - essentially ABM - It *should be your bread and butter no?

Listen to FatBob. Market yourself. Decide on your market, design a go-to market strategy and execute. Use contacts, gain their opinion and insight and in doing so, their recommendations/referrals.

Recruitment is my gig (Search, SME Main Board/Marzipan Layer). Advertising is near useless (I spent all yesterday rejecting 876 applicants out of 907 applications, not including the 500+ that had been automatically screened out). Most applicants hadn't even read the advert/spec.

Job Boards are even worse.

I just searched ‘marketing manager jobs’ and a lot came up on a number of general and specialist sites. Notwithstanding any restrictions on where you can work in terms of commuting distance, are these the roles you have been applying for? Have you been getting shortlisted and invited to interviews?
