Next summer I plan to take a 3 month work placement in IT/Computing.

I've applied to my current employer, John Lewis to work at Bracknell offices doing IT, but I'm worried that I might not get a placement there due to strong demand. Where else can I apply?

I am looking for placements either in the West Midlands (commuting distance from north of Birmingham, or within commuting distance from Wokingham, Berkshire. (My idea of a commute is long! 60 to 90 minutes...)

Any ideas of where I can look for such jobs? Have tried Google but I just get loads of permanent job sites? Are there any specific sites?

Have you tried JL in London? Have a friend doing some IT contracting work on their servers there. Or is that a bit far/nightmare to get to?

I'm thinking it is gonna be a nightmare to get there, as the nearest I can get to London (staying with friends = cheap) is Wokingham frown I specified on my application that I'd prefer to work in Bracknell but if offered in London then I'd say yes too (you got a choice of where you wanted to apply) - would just be a bit of a mission to commute! smile

Swindon any good?

You may be able to get in at Intel.

I spent a year working for them as part of my degree.

Give me a shout if it's a possibility and i'll dig out some email addresses.

Swindon is probably still within commuting distance of Wokingham, talking just over an hour and a bit each way?

If you have any contacts that would be great!!

What area(s) are you looking to work in?
What skills do you have?
Are you expecting to be paid?

Looking to work in any area of IT really. I'm currently at Uni studing Databases (Access last year, Oracle this), Networking (Cisco CCNA syllabus) and Java (though not such a fan of that...)

I've worked on and off since summer 06 at a childcare company providing telephone and face-to-face support at their children's nurseries across the country, so my knowledge of XP/2000 plus networking knowledge and Windows Server has gone up greatly (we moved head offices this past summer).

Yes, looking to be paid smile, and I like driving/travelling too.. smile
