insurance/accident investigator

I have 25 years in the motor trade from buyer to building cars and would like to consider my options.
I am very knowledgeable about the trade and run a small restoration business from home as well as working for a large car manufacturer. How would I go about getting into something like accident or insurance investigation?

As far as I'm aware accident investigators often come from a Police background.

This in an area I'd be really interested in working in. I've got a Master's degree in Materials Engineering, have some experience of failure investigation and currently work as a production engineer for an aerospace engine manufacturer. If anyone has any leads for work in the South/South West they'd be very much appreciated.
