Hi Chaps and Chapetts,
I am moving house this Friday, and have booked a day off.
I have just been informed that it should not be taken from my holiday allowance?
First time I have heard of such a thing, and to be honest I dont agree with it.
Any ideas?

My wife used to work for a bank, they had a policy of allowing you to take a day off for moving house in addition to any holiday entitlement. Is that the sort of thing they are saying to you?
+1. You get one or two days per year for moving house (has to be accompanied by a change of address of course!)fido said:

I could understand this if you were relocating for work, however if it is purely a person choice for you move I would have thought that it should definietely be holiday.
I worked for one company where the company would not only give a day off work but also pay moving expenses if the house someone was moving into was within three miles of the company. They soon changed the details when one guy moved 400yards further away from the factory into a bigger place and claimed all the expenses.

Fido: Hi Boss, I want Monday and Tuesday next week off.
Fido Boss: Why?
F: I'm moving house.
FB: Sorry, you're only allowed one day per move, and you need to register the change of address with HR once the move is complete.
F: OK, I'm moving twice. My current address is 1 Acacia Ave, my address on Monday night will be 2 Nosuch Place but I will be back in 1 Acacia Ave by Tuesday evening. (With a nice collection of Booze Cruise plonk/suntan from spending a long weekend on the CostaLotta/new engine fitted in my track car/whatever).

Strange employer you have. If they are stupid enough to give you the day off then go for it.
Too right! Last time I moved house I was working for the most skinflint meanies on the planet - they wouldn't even let me take a personal phone call from my solicitor about the house move. I threw a sickie. Only one I've ever done.
