Redundancy rights
Discussion
Hi,
My teacher wife was made redundant this morning, Obviously i'm biased to say this is completely unfair but the criteria constantly changed to pinpoint her as the candidate. Really unexpected and don't know where to start to appeal, there is no rep for her union and we don't know what her rights are.
I can completely identify with those who've been hit by this now and know that it's utter cr@p.
Please could somebody offer some advise on she can overturn the decision.
Cheers,

Teachers being made redundant? Was she state or private? I know the state schools are well under staffed and theres currently a fast track system in to get people retrained.....My teacher wife was made redundant this morning, Obviously i'm biased to say this is completely unfair but the criteria constantly changed to pinpoint her as the candidate. Sure she'll bounce back, good luck.
You have decide upon the pool of peopler at the same type of job, then put everyone in the pool under notice that a position(s) within the pool may become redundant and start a 30 day consultation period.
During the consultation period you have to perform an objective system to determine who will be redundant, people are entitled to know the criteria and how they scored, but not other peoples resutlts.
At the end of that you notify the affected parties and then they recieve redundancy plus notice period.
If there is another position vacant then you have to consider them, and if they are suitable they can have a 4 week trial in the new position.

Blimey! I've never heard of a state school teacher being made redundant before. My Father in Law is that rarest of things - a right wing ex head teacher - and talking to him about this sort of thing in the past, his view was that the unions made it next to impossible. I would certainly 100% agree with people telling her to call the Union's central office to get them on the case.
