A friend of mine starts her teacher training in October 2010.

She is currently working as a teaching assistant in quite possibly the crappest school that I have ever heard of. Especially after a few students threatening her and quite a bit of violence thrown at her.

She has applied to other schools, but not too many wanting.

So she is looking for something else as an 18 month position, possibly working outside.

So I put it to the vast knowledge of PH, any ideas.

And no suggestions of prostitution or something of the same ilk.

A JCB driver? I'm sure you'd class that as outside even if you are in a cab.

Quite a few websites that host work exchange offers - basically you go somewhere nice and work in exchange for bed and board. Choose from sheep farms in aus, orphanages in SE Asia, teaching in Africa etc etc. It's my plan should the worst happen in the brownturn.
One of many...

Think that is a good idea.

As for JCB driver, god help us with that. I've seen her driving. I believe it took her nearly 3 hours to drive from Huddersfield to York.

Working abroad, no she has to be in the UK I believe, as she has things to do here.

I'll second that; I was a postie for 8 months. If you can live with the early starts, it's great finishing work at lunch time. Superb way to lose weight too; I dropped 21lbs. Bit crap when it rains though, and the bag's proper heavy at Christmas, the maximum allowed bag weight is a bad joke. Manual handling regs my arrse.

what about working for a sports centre etc? Theres plenty that have outdoor work, and there can be good teaching opportunities and lots of interaction with kids. Pay is never that much though.

Greenkeeper on a golf course. I had an awesome 6 months driving golf buggies and tractors around when I was 16, and trust me there is no skill required in raking a bunker!

Get a job as a private tutor aboard a luxury sailing yacht that's on a round the world trip. Usually 2 or 3 of these every year.
