So 17 out of 130 ish staff are at risk. and 17 of 200 hourly paid too. In my department I'm at risk more than the others because my boss has recently failed in his attempt (although he's still attempting it) to get rid of me via the disciplinary system.

Won't have a definate yes or no for 31 days. and then I'm on 3 months notice.

But it's not knowing that's killing me.

Don't put a double burden on yourself by worrying about the current situation with your boss AND your future. The two are separate issues and shuld be treated as such. One day at a time and all that.

Chin up mate!

Get pro-active mate: get your CV up-to-date and get it reviewed for feedback by some of your friends, suss out where you need to be searching for jobs (and search daily) - even if there's a job that's not an exact fit, go for interview to get some practice. There is a book I bought ages a go called Tough Interview Questions and How to Answer Them; get something similar and write down your own answers to these difficult questions; no interview is as bad as this (sort of) book so if you are prepared for the worst..

Good Luck; I hope you find yourself something more rewarding than what you're currently doing smile

You never know, it might be him out the door.

Obviously not knowing is the worst, BUT try not to sweat the things that you can't change.

Why spend a bit of time sorting out the CV etc.. and looking for any other jobs you might want, as a bit of a back-up?

They'll have to tread carefully, or you'll have them for unfair dismissal wink

However you do have my sympathies.

Something has to be said for the old fashioned procedure. Why can't it just be
Managing Director to the entire workforce said:
"we're going through some hard times and we have been discussing for several days and we have to sadly let a number of you go. Please collect your envelope on the way out to see if you have been selected for redundancy."
BANG

Harsh, true enough, but not a month of worry and concern for the entire work force....... Obviously needs to be safe to avoid mis-use but anything would be better than the current system. I've been through it 10 years ago and it was ghastly then, now it must be dreadful as the process has got even more elongated.

It is about the job and not the person (in theory) but is sure doesn't feel like it.

Just try to think positively! I walked out my job 4 weeks ago (had been there for nearly 6 years) all because i had a massive personality clash with my new boss, (who has just been sacked......) anyway I took a few weeks off to think things through. Then started applying for jobs via as many websites/angencies I could find....and the result is??? I start a new job next monday, for more cash and more importantly, more fun drive to work!!!

So even tho everyone said I was crazy for doing it in the current economic climate, you will find work!!! If you do get laid off.....which you might not

Chin up!!!!

Is there an agreed scoring method for deciding who are the 2 out of the 5?

Chin's up chaps. As other's have said, if the worst happens or has happened, hit the ground running. I speak from experience when I say that the worst thing that you can do is feel sorry for yourself. Get your CV looking sparkling (I'm sure those on here could help) and get it out to literally everybody you possibly can. These things very often have a happy ending. Good luck.

plus even if you're not one of the unlucky few you might find a better job anyway so you can get away from that boss...

The time scale is this.

Next week - meeting with the production director and technical manager to tell me what redundancy I might expect and for me to ask questions
Week after - meeting with them to tell me the criteria - at this point I have 48 hours to ask for volantary redundancy when they will double my redundancy package. £0x2 + 3 months pay
Week beginning 8th June another meeting to be told it's me (or not)
Followed by 3 months gardening leave.

Dear staff, today we will be making one of your redundant. All those that think they have a secure job take one step forward.

Mr. Pod! Where do you think you're going?!

I went through this a couple of months ago. 3 out of 6 graduate engineers were being made redundant, I am one. I managed to keep my job by appearing flexible (i have said I will relocate to London, which is due to happen in the coming months) and luckily for me, despite other "graduates" having 2+ years more on job experience, development potential was weighted quite highly on the redundancy selection criteria.

They divide your PH post count with the time you've been employed with that company.
