EDI Level Certificate's ????

Hi,
A firiend is thinking of doing a home study course and the "qualification" it gives is a EDI Level 2 Certificate.
What the hell is that? I have heard of NVQ's/diplomas/City and Guilds ect ect but never heard of EDI qualifications.
Are they taken seriously by employers? Is it some fly by night scam is it the "new" NVQ
He cant give up work to go back to college so home study is the best way for him
